I suppose I should get around to writing down some of my thoughts about last weekend’s trip. Some of the minor difference I noticed between New York and Halifax:
In New York, the pigeons have a wider array of color. Here they are mostly blue and grey with the occasional that looks a little paler than the rest, but in Manhattan I saw various shades of brown and even some greys that came close to being black. Pigeon diversity. Also, I don’t remember seeing much in the way of crows. We have lots of crows here.
In New York if I happen to bump into someone in the street, I don’t have to apologize because by the time I’ve turned enough to see them they’re out of earshot. I guess people just walk into each other all day there and they’re all desensitized. But seeing as I am more comfortable if I do apologize, maybe next time I’m there I will chase after anyone I bump into and force them to hear me.
Continuing the theme of walking the streets, in New York the WALK and DON’T WALK signals actually mean WALK BUT YOU MIGHT STILL GET HIT and SEE IF YOU CAN’T FIT BETWEEN THOSE TWO CARS respectively.
And stuff like that, I don’t know. I’m not a travel guide. I will say this, as I traveled around the southern half of Manhattan, I saw more trees than I would have expected the city to have based on its reputation.
In the meantime, we’re getting snow again. What is that about? Someone needs to tell Mother Nature to get a calendar.
Another reason for me to dislike the Wintertime: I just had to wait over two hours for my cab home from work. From WORK. The place I least want to spend time. You see? This snow stuff is an idiot.
Now I go to sleep.
Uh… Let’s see…
I guess that I am happy that I had an extra day off this weekend. Granted I will have an extra day of work this week as well, but I’ll complain about that when the time comes.
In other news, I am fairly certain that I have become a conductor for alien transmissions to be sent to the planet Planet Earth. This explains why I always make noises vocally. This is the only explanation. It is interesting to note that the aliens speak fluent English and generally don’t have anything to say beyond what I was going to say anyway. But it is still an honor to be so vital to human history.
And finally I must begrudge the fact we have so much more snow than we did at this time than last year. As a noted fan of not-snow, I will consider this my official complaint for the time being. The snow does act as a reminder that I need some new shoes, though.
So the forecast for this winter is that it will be the coldest winter here in quite some time and will “remind us what Canadian winters are like” but I totally don’t want to remember, so I would like to cast my vote for this winter to be warmed up. Thank you.
Also, I have seen Futurama and I am happy because of it.
Okay, it’s not really so much a snow storm as it is some snow, but I thought it best to continue the weather themed titles. But anyway, we got snow and I don’t want it there. But I’m not too upset about it yet. I mean we barely got snow last winter, so my tolerance is a little higher. But give it time. And for the record, that hurricane last week turned out to be a bit of a wuss, really. I guess some places lost power for a few hours and some more rural ones for a day or more, but the PDR went no longer than ten minutes without it. Granted it cut out when I was a minute away from the end of the movie I was watching, but that’s just a minor annoyance.
Anyway, in other news I have been playing a free trial for Star Wars Galaxies. It’s got some major flaws, but I have been able to say “omgstarwarz lol” on four different planets now, which amuses me. What doesn’t amuse me is having a character (a Jedi no less) trapped behind knee-high barriers that he cannot jump over and between openings that look larger than him, but he cannot walk through. I ended up just making another character and joining the Empire.
And before I go I want to I want to mention this so I don’t forget it. I was hanging with Kip the other day and mentioned that I had hit myself in the face with ice cream last week. He asked if anyone had been around to see it and I said that Marq was sitting next to me, but watching the television, so he didn’t see it. Kip then pointed out, and I don’t remember his exact words but something like “When I lived with you, I always kept one eye on you, because I knew you were always seconds away from doing something stupid”. That makes me happy for some reason.
