All Languages Are Wrong

Sometime last week I read Jules Verne’s “Journey to the Centre of the Earth”. I had been putting off reading Verne because when I read a book that has been translated into English from another language, I feel like I’m cheating or that I’m not reading it the way it was meant to be. However, I don’t read French so well (I blame the ineffectiveness of the school system that tried to teach me), so I really don’t have another choice. In any case, the book was good so I’ll probably be trying out more Verne even at the expense of feeling like it ain’t right.

PDR Update.

Few days back my bookshelf totally collapsed. DVDs, books and toys now cover the living room floor and I’m not picking them up until I buy a new bookshelf. For some reason Canadian Tire no longer sells bookshelves (that’s where I got the last one) so I have to find someplace that isn’t a minute away from my home. Sigh. That’s inconvenient, eh? At least the mess of the living room has nothing compared to that of my bedroom.

Kip totally made it by for a short visit today! It’s about time. The last four attempts at that failed. My day is always better when I get a dose of Vitamin Kip (AKA gibberish, insults and stupidity).

But I have to go to work an hour early now. I’ll complain about that. Complain!

That’s about it.

Banks Hate Me.

As I check out my groceries, I occasionally note that there is a “Pregnancy for Dummies” booklet next to the cash. I am not convinced we should be letting Dummies get pregnant. They’re likely to only produce dumb offspring. Right?

Anyhow, in the ongoing story of being unable to pay for Contains2, I got a letter from the Royal Bank’s security department yesterday saying I should call them. I tried four times today and it was busy each time. Go figure.

Apart from that, not much to say. So I will simply say “Volcano Rabbits Exist” and leave it at that.

I Post Stuff To Prove I Can.

I recently bought the book Jennifer Government. Just now I was laying in bed reading and I came across a line which said that in the capitalistopia in which this book is set, the occupation of being a government agent has “the highest death rate of any occupation except machine operators.”

Machine operator is, of course, my job occupation. Hooray!

In other (local) news, the Halifax School Board apparently bickered and fought so much that the education minister just fired the lot of them. I don’t know or care much about the actual story behind it all, but it amuses me on the principle of firing a bunch of bickering ninnies.

In me complaining news, I’ve been sleeping a lot lately and it has been causing me to get even less done than I usually do. Which sucks because I don’t do much any more. In fact, it’s been about a month since I’ve done laundry. And the fact I’ve bought some new clothes during that month does not make up for the fact that it’s still about a month without doing laundry.

Also, I recently worked the word “ninnies” into a sentence.

I’m pretty sure there’s a holiday of some kind coming up. Hmmm. I’ll have to look into that one.

And finally, please donate money to trees. They need it more than you do. Especially the larch.

666.

I was reading the complete Bone collection in a restaurant yesterday and some guy who said he was on some school board somewhere became interested. He said kids today don’t read enough (no doubt!) and that they are looking for things to stock their library with something more interesting than the classics. Now I have nothing against the classics personally, but I’m happy to say he wrote down the title and author and everything, so I assume he actually plans on looking up the book. See, I can still make a difference in the world around me.

But tomorrow, I won’t be making any difference, that’s for sure. I’ll just be back at work. I’m glad I had today off though, what with it being the 666 day and all. I assume the anti-Christ was born today, so to all you new mothers: Kill Your Child!

Let’s see, what else do I have to talk about? Uh… I’m still depressed by humanity. And it seems like forever since anything has gone up at Homestar Runner. And damn, I wish I didn’t have to go to work in the morning…
