All Languages Are Wrong

Sometime last week I read Jules Verne’s “Journey to the Centre of the Earth”. I had been putting off reading Verne because when I read a book that has been translated into English from another language, I feel like I’m cheating or that I’m not reading it the way it was meant to be. However, I don’t read French so well (I blame the ineffectiveness of the school system that tried to teach me), so I really don’t have another choice. In any case, the book was good so I’ll probably be trying out more Verne even at the expense of feeling like it ain’t right.

Don’t feel so bad. There’s a french you in an alternate reality….
Sadly he was eaten by panthers.

The saddest thing is that he probably could have taught me French really well.
