Super Sunday: Omnivoroids

Omnivoroids

By most human standards, the Omnivoroids are basically monsters. They stand about three meters tall on average, and as they have begun to spread across the galaxy they have learned that they love to eat any of life forms they find on other worlds. The form of digestion they have evolved allows the Omnivoroids (called Goulos in their own language) to digest biological life regardless of its origin. As such, they have no respect for other sentient beings, seeing the universe as one big buffet presented for them. Led by a ruler that we might call an emperor, the Omnivoroids are spreading across the galaxy in vast colony ships.

A couple of Omnivoroids can be seen over here, and then being visited by Little Choy over here. Surely everyone has been full of questions about them after those thought-provoking experiences.

Nunk is a commander of a Goulos Space Ship. It isn’t one of the colony ships that is bringing Omnivoroids to other planets, but instead a scientific scout ship that is mapping and cataloging the universe. If they detect an atmosphere that seems to support life, Nunk and his loyal crew will boldly go there to eat it.

Omnivoroids have very weak hearing, but their sense of smell is so advanced it it practically magic compared to anything on Earth. Because of that, there is no music among Omnivoroids, but there is a technique of timed incense burners that are meant to tell stories or evoke emotions in the way music is among humans. Eoicks is a scentsmith who creates such smell experiences. While most of the mainstream scentwork on planet Goulog these days is meant to be uplifting and life-affirming, but Eoicks is trying to challenge that by creating the scent-equivalent of punk rock music, harsh and challenging smells that run counter to the popular stuff.

Kerbo is a medical worker. The Omnivoroids are a particularly hardy group, viruses and bacteria are not a big concern for them, so the biggest medical concern is physical injury. Their equivalent of a hospital operates on principles that resemble a pit crew or an assembly line, with whole teams of workers toiling together to patch up injuries as quick as possible.

A Fact About Omnivoroids: Omnivoroids desire to mate for life is so strong that the ideal of promiscuity or adultery are utterly foreign to them. Mate pairing isn’t seen in a “romantic” way as it is on Earth, though couples are often quite fond of one another. Romantic love doesn’t exist among them, but loyalty is supreme.

Super Sunday: More Wallfixers

Wallfixers

As I’ve mentioned before, the Order of Wallfixers of is a group of alien wizards who patrol the multiverse righting wrongs, especially when those wrongs damage the physical structure of reality. I covered a bunch of them during the Supernatural Sunday year, so now I’ll do a handful more during these Alien Sundays.

Hurnhaw

The Xemulo Wallfixer named Hurnhaw is one of the older generation of Wallfixers and prefers to keep things simple. Hurnhaw focuses entirely on the actual fixing of damage in the walls of reality, simply wandering from dimensional tear to dimensional tear and patching them up. Hurnhaw doesn’t make introductions to the natives of dimensions, and doesn’t make explanations to anyone, just goes about the repairs, then wanders to the next place in need.

Coiditlah

Coiditlah is from an aquatic species native to the galaxy known as “The Circle“. Like most of the life in that galaxy, the idea of alien life came as no surprise, but Coiditlah was still surprised to develop magical powers and be propelled into the multiverse. Few things can make one feel smaller than awareness of the infinite, so Coiditlah’s reaction to the powers was actually one of fear and depression. Only when discovered by Hurnhaw and trained did Coiditlah learn to mellow out and accept the vastness of it all. Still serving as an assistant to Hurnhaw, Coiditlah returns home often to stay grounded.

Whitsenberg

The Wallfixer known as Whitsenberg is a stretchy little alien who can climb walls and spit acid. Trained by Nyrveek, Whitsenberg was dutifully researching an ancient library when captured by the Efmon family. Whitsenberg is currently being held in an Efmon prison, studied by Essan Efmon and his colleagues.

The Warden

The Warden is a gigantic crab-like alien who is one of the most powerful Wallfixers. Realizing that the infinite array of universes is too much even for an organization like the Wallfixers to patrol, the Warden reinterpreted the Wallfixer tradition of teaching and training. Usually, that is taken to mean that they should find and train those who possess Wallfixer powers. The Warden decided there was no reason trainees needed those powers, and so founded the Myriad Worlds Police Force, an agency of unpowered individuals who prevent threats to reality. The Warden takes its current moniker from the fact that it watches over the pocket dimension used as a prison by the MWP.

Super Sunday: Xemulos

Xemulos

The Xemulos of planet Erretaz are a species with four legs, fur, hooves, and tails. Their society is still fairly primitive by our human standards, they tend to live in herds that gather around watering holes on their fairly arid world without shelter and with little tool use. In spite of their resemblance to Earth animals such as horses or donkeys, their actual biological processes are more similar to what we’d call a reptilian style. Xemulos do speak vocal languages, all of them being tonal in nature, but more important to the meaning is the position of the ears while they speak.

Brrai is part of the leading unit of a herd. The leaders are generally the healthiest specimens of the herd, those who can lead and bear the risk of any danger that may strike from the front. They decide when and where the herd must go, they meet with the representatives of other herds, and they fight when necessary. That is rare, though, so most, including Brrai, have never resorted to violence. It’s much easier to run, after all.

Eabrur is addicted to Unnhurf, which is a fruit that Xemulos gather and store in such a way that it becomes intoxicating to them. Most Xemulos will just have Unnhurf as a celebratory thing, but those with addictive personalities, like Eabrur, can develop problems with it. Eabrur’s addiction has caused problems in the herd, with Eabrur lashing out at friends and family when they try to help.

Rhodit is part of a herd that is atypically nocturnal. In their region, the weather can be hotter than most of the rest of the world so they have adapted by taking shelter in cool caves during the day and coming out to eat at night. Rhodit is more territorial than most Xemulos and actually has claimed ownership of a preferred section of the cave. If it were possible to go without food, Rhodit would be perfectly happy never to leave the cave.

A Fact About Xemulos: A species of flea-like insectoid-creature has evolved to live off of Xemulos. They are mostly harmless, though annoying, to their hosts, and since the vast majority of Xemulos are infested with them, they don’t even realize how much better they’d be without them. The exception is a population of Xemulos on a secluded island who live with a species of flying animal that grooms the Xemulos by eating the parasites off them.
