Today I watched Zombieland. I learned about the existence of Zombieland like a month ago, proving I am not up to date on what is going on in the world once again. And even then I thought to myself “Well, that movie is probably going to be passable at best” and that was that. But having actually seen it now, I can say that Zombieland is a fun and funny movie. Even with zombies being so overused these days (enough that even one such as myself can say it) I do not regret that that movie was made. Unlike the similarly-titled Zombie Nation. That movie I couldn’t even laugh at mockingly. But anyway, Zombieland gets at least Four and a Half Pieces of PDR’s Reviewing System Cake.

Also, a thought that has nothing to do with Zombieland but occurred to me the other night: One advantage to driving on the wrong side of the road like the Britishmen do is that you can stage car chase (and other car-related action) scenes to travel in the left-to-right direction and maintain focus on the driver. We can’t do that here. Unless, the chase involves one of those mail trucks I see with the seat on the wrong side. Or, I suppose if the car chase is being watched in a mirror. I guess.

On Friday Night, I got to see Louis C.K. do his stand up comedy routine at a public staging of that stand up comedy routine. It was very good. Seriously though, if that man is doing a public staging of his stand up comedy routine in your town, I recommend you go see the public staging of his stand up comedy routine.

We showed up late and had to find our seats while some opening act guy was on. No biggie. We still got to see Louis. And he delivered entertainment. I give his show a Five out of Six Pieces of PDR’s Reviewing System Cake. He makes the bleak realities of modern life amusing. What impressed me most is that I’ve watched many appearances of Louis C.K. and specials and whatnot and there was not one joke in this act that I had heard before. Marq says that when he appeared on the radio the morning of the show he said he is constantly updating his material. It shows and I thank him for it. My refusal to watch any clips of him between buying the tickets and the show now seems unnecessary.

A conundrum though, I’ve always pronounced his name like “Louie” because I’m almost positive that that was how it was said back when he used to be on Conan and I know his show was called Lucky Louie. But Marq said the radio was pronouncing the “S” and I saw a commercial for upcoming film The Invention of Lying which seemed to pronounce the “S” as well. I could look it up online, I’m sure, but instead I’m just gonna write about it here. We have yet to watch his recent appearance on Conan’s new show and I am confident that it will help me to learn the correct pronunciation.

Apart from that, I’ve not much else to say. A couple more comics from the Contains2 days have been put up in the comics section and I expect that after I post this I will also take a prose story from the old days and bring it to life on this site. It also occurs to me that there are a few actual videos and animations that I should be salvaging from the Contains2 wreckage as well. The Internet currently doesn’t know how much it is missing.

This week I tried Soy Milk. I was shopping and say that the instructions on the carton read “Shake Well and Buy Often!” I figured that making such a blatant command was such a ballsy move that I’d reward them by giving them a shot. Of the options the store had (plain, unsweetened, vanilla) I decided to go with plain (though I was confused by the idea that “plain” and “unsweetened” wouldn’t be the same thing, but I didn’t dwell on it). Well, anyway, I tried it both as a straight-from-the-carton beverage and as a poured-on-Alphabits thing. My findings indicate that I don’t plan to buy it again any time soon. I can’t say it disgusted me or anything, it was passable and if that was all I had to drink I’d get by, but it isn’t what I was used to. I don’t expect it makes sense to anyone but myself, but I found it was too “high-pitched” (or whatever the taste equivalent of that would be) for my liking. I don’t remember what brand it was, but I’m prepared to generalize and say that they’re all the same. I give it Three out of Six Pieces of PDR’s Reviewing System Cake.

Also this week, with Wade being back in town for the briefest of times, I got a chance to Zombies!!! The two of us played, joined by Marq. Now it’s fair to say that I have a pretty pro-zombie attitude. I’m pretty much right in this game’s target audience. But that doesn’t mean I can’t tell something is crap even when it has zombies in it. That said, this is not crap. I very much enjoyed this game. Wade got the rules out relatively succinctly for such a complex game, so it isn’t too confusing so long as you’ve got someone who knows what they’re doing (and it probably isn’t so bad for people who can, y’know, figure things out by reading instructions, but in that category I am not). The game went pretty quick, it felt, and the final run for the winning spot had Wade look like he had it in the bag, only to wind up with me then coming even closer (one move away if that zombie dog hadn’t got me!) and then Marq finally closed in and won. The rapid turnover at the end really made it quite fun. Five out of Six Pieces of PDR’s Reviewing System Cake.

Yesterday I saw a Giant Monster Movie in the moving picture cinema theatre. I enjoyed it quite a lot and am sure that the Giant Monster genre is in for a big rebirth. Of course that will only really amount to a heap of really bad Giant Monster Movies being made until the whole idea is tired and I’m begging for them to stop (I’m about there for zombies, for example) but I’ve wanted more movies with giant stuff for so long that I’m willing to go on that ride. Next, I think I’ll demand a resurgence of

I used Superman body wash yesterday. I had found it in the store a while back and kept forgetting to use it, but yesterday I remembered. Turns out I don’t much care for it. And it didn’t give me Superman powers, so it’s just an all around disappointment really. I’d have to give it a mere one slice of PDR’s Reviewing System Cake. And that’s just because it has Superman on it.
