BACK TO MAIN ADVENTURE DENNIS PAGE
As the comic explicitly says, the ice level as at the top of the mountain. Dennis is on his way to a castle, which could easily be atop a mountain. I needed to fit an ice level in somewhere, so why not on the way to the castle? It retroactively makes the choice of a mountain last level make more sense. This one seems to have gone up on the twenty-ninth of September in 2009.
Dennis’s outfit is a Contra kinda jungle solider guy, chosen because I thought it’s funny that he is shirtless in the cold level.
Page 1: The terrible demoniac cow is inspired by the “Pinky” demons from Doom, but quadrupedal. I needed to populate King Demonevil’s army with demons, and that game may not be a plarformer, but it is one of the prominent examples of demons in games.
Page 3: The “snow person” and the way Dennis pulls it apart to kill it are a reference to those cactus-made-of-balls guys from the Mario games who are fine when they are pulled apart. I think maybe they are called Pokeys? If the Mario series has never done a snow-man variant of the Pokey they are missing out.
The World Champ is supposed to allude to Punch Out. Sticking him on the ice level is meant to be incongruous, like Dennis’s outfit in the cold.
Page 5: The bear is just another instance of animal cruelty, but I tried to indicate that the damage he does to this one bear echoes through that species of bear. It’d make more sense if this was just the last of its kind, but no, the intent is that Dennis just damages it so much that it wipes them all out around the world.
The Werewolfman is probably meant to evoke something from Castlevania, but it’s a pretty generic foe I guess.
Page 7: Perfectly logical for a Yeti variant to show up in this one.
And then the boss is a cold-style robot meant to be like a Mega Man boss.
Page 8: If I remember correctly, when I originally put this page up the third panel had no text, just the boss silent moving toward Dennis (with a motion line) in silence. I later decided that I didn’t want any silent panels until a certain point, so I retroactively stuck the “Horrible!” in there.
Page 9: The boss’s death indicates to me that he was more of a cyborg than a robot.
