The PDR RPG is an RPG system that I’ve been tinkering with for many years now, made wholly from scratch and wholly for my own enjoyment (though it is based on what I’ve seen in other RPGs). While most of the actual mechanics I’ve been working on are not currently online, a big part of the PDR RPG is random tables used to create things on the fly. Those are not connected to my mechanics, so in theory anybody could employ them for their own games. I am selling these for a dollar each elsewhere on the Internet, but if you’ve found your way to this page, you might as well just help yourself to the free copies.
Right now all of the tables I’ve been working on are been part of a collection I originally called Kill Ghosts, Fight Mysteries, and Desecrate Science that focused on paranormal investigation stories. Here they are as pdf files, with more to come.
Taking inspiration from sources such as Stephen King, the X-Files, and Twin Peaks, as well as folk horror like the Wicker Man, this 18 page set of tables is supposed to help create a small town on the fly and populate it with quirky characters and supernatural threats.
This set is inspired by X-Files again (the more urban episodes) as well as the show Evil, but mostly movies set in cities that have a palpable feeling of dread or apocalyptic decay, such as End of Days or the Exorcist 3, or the first Gabriel Knight game. It’s another 18 pages, for building up cities and their citizens this time.
This is a 10 page set designed to create a secretive organization that is trying to cover up or profit from or fight all the supernatural elements in the world. Inspired by things like Men In Black or the SCP project.
Another 10 pager, this batch is inspired to add an element of cosmic horror to the settings, with eldritch terrors and arcane threats. Inspired by Lovecraft and, even more so, by the various things inspired by Lovecraft.
Another 10 pager, this batch is specifically inspired by the Scooby Doo franchise and is meant to provide supernatural hoax mysteries, where the monsters and phantoms turn out to be people in costumes and the like.
Something Is Chasing The Truck: Created as part of an itch.io game jam, this is a one-page RPG game about driving a truck and being chased by something. It could be that you are driving to or from a Small Town With Paranormal Problems, if you like.
