Shane claimed to have seen the bear exactly two weeks ago under the light of a full moon, but Adam knows that the full moon is tonight, so two weeks ago the farm would have been in complete darkness. Adam correctly guesses that Shane was responsible for the power outage to disable the security systems and stole the honey for himself. In fact, when the adults return, they find the second batch of stolen honey in Shane’s car, he had planned to sell it the next day.
